It is a minimally invasive procedure that treats Vertebral Compression Fractures in the spine due to osteoporosis. It aims to stabilize the fractured vertebra, reduce ache, restore the vertebral height and spine alignment
The patient is given a local anesthetic and a small incision is made. A cannula is guided into the fractured vertebrae via fluoroscopy. A medical balloon is inserted through the narrow tube to inflate the collapsed vertebra to create a cavity. The void is filled with bone cement to provide structural support.
